CHESTER

Chester was adopted from the Lucky Dog Program last May. He joined a home with another dog, and they have become fast friends. His owners said,

"Before adopting from the Lucky Dog Program, we already had a dog that we had adopted as a puppy, and we weren't sure we could go through those 'puppy stages' again. We didn't have to worry. Chester is such a sweet and gentle dog. He is obedient and good natured. He was a little shy when we first adopted him, but in the weeks after we brought him home, he started to come out of his shell and gained confidence. It was like he knew he was finally home. He is the perfect companion. If we ever got another dog, we would definitely seek one from the Lucky Dog Program! The women who helped us adopt Chester helped to be sure we had the right match for our home. They did a great job, because Chester is the right match for us."

Two years ago Roscoe came to live with me.  I want to let you know how he's doing.  This year he had ACL surgery.  The first night home from the hospital, I realized the major challenges we were going to face since he is such a large dog & I live alone.  I had his bed made on the floor because he was not able to jump.  He has always slept on the bed with me.  Dr. Smith said if he tried to jump up on anything he could tear that ligament again & damage the joint.  He cried & whined until I slept on the floor with him.  With no sleep I knew we could not keep doing that.  The next morning I took the bed apart, put the mattress on the floor, put him on the mattress, and we slept.  We did this for six weeks while he was recovering.  I put a wheel chair ramp at the back door & managed pretty well with a towel around his abdomen to get him in & out of the house.  We really had to work together since he was unable to support his weight.  The next six weeks we still had to be careful but he was getting around by himself hopping on three legs.  He was such a good boy during the recovery.  I was so proud if him considering he has always been a cry baby.  He is back to normal and walking just fine.

If you recall when I adopted Roscoe his heart worm test came up positive.  Well finally after two years of Dr. Smith frequently testing and monitoring Roscoe's health, last month his test came out negative for the first time.  YEPPEEEE!!!

WOW!  What a year for Roscoe!!!

I love him so much.  I want you to know that all the work & time everyone in the program put into Roscoe was worth it.  He is my most precious!!!

Sometimes I look at him and think "Is this the same dog that spent the first two weeks with me laying on the floor and staring at me, depressed, unsure of me & his new environment?" THINGS HAVE CHANGED!!!

When people ask me "How's Roscoe?" I say he's perfect.  You know HE IS PERFECT!!!

Here are some pictures of my happy, adorable boy.

On those days that you think about throwing in the towel, remember Roscoe & me.  Keep up the wonderful work you do!!!

Thank you & God bless you all.
